Three days. Six tablets. No shortcuts. Here’s why finishing the full course matters more than feeling better.
The short answer
A complete course of Artemether + Lumefantrine is 6 tablets over 3 days for an average adult: 2 tablets on day one (8 hours apart), then one tablet morning and evening on days two and three. Children take a weight-based dose of the child-strength pack.
Why you can’t stop when the fever breaks
Fever often disappears after the first doses because most parasites are already cleared. But the toughest parasites survive those early doses. Stop early, and they multiply again — your malaria comes back, sometimes worse, and the surviving parasites learn to resist the medicine. That resistance threatens everyone, not just you.
Make each dose count
Take every dose with food or a milky drink — fat helps your body absorb lumefantrine. If you vomit within an hour of a dose, repeat that dose. And always confirm you’re treating malaria: a test before treatment is best practice where available.
